VISION USA Announces Year-round Program

VISION USA (Volunteers In Service In Our Nation) has announced its year-round program which will enable uninsured, low-income families to apply year-round for free eye health and vision care services.

This twelve-year old program was developed by doctors of optometry who are members of the American Optometric Association (AOA), which previously limited inquiries and examinations to select months.

To date, the national, charitable program has served more than 300,000 low-income working Americans and hopes to serve many more by accepting applications year-round. Interested people can inquire about eligibility for the VISION USA program by calling the toll-free number 1-800-766-4466.

If an individual or family is eligible, they will be matched with a volunteer doctor who will provide a comprehensive eye exam at no charge. Eyewear may also be provided at no cost, or for a small fee/donation in some states (Source: AOA Press Release, July 1, 2002).
