LOW VISION TIPS: “THINK CONTRAST”

IN THE KITCHEN

  • Use a dark glass when pouring a light-colored drink. Use white glass when pouring dark-colored drinks. Avoid clear glasses.
  • Place black coasters on white counters for placing light colored drinks and other light objects, such as pills.

IN THE BATHROOM

  • For white countertops, use dark colored toothbrushes, soap dishes, etc. For black countertops, use white toothbrushes, soak dishes, etc.
  • In the white bathroom, a dark bathmat draped over a white tub will make the tub easier to see. Place a dark toliet seat cover over a white toilet.

IN THE BEDROOM

  • Use a light bedspread against a dark carpet and a dark bedspread against a white carpet.
  • If the room is mostly dark tones, place light colored pillows or chairs in strategic places to help you find things.
