Assistive Technology — Low Interest Cash Loans Available For Qualified Applicants

TechConnect, a program of the Illinois Assistive Technology Project (IATP), is helping Illinois residents with disabilities to buy assistive technology through low-interest cash loans to qualified applicants. These loans can be used to buy the technology needed including

  • Computers and disability-related software
  • Low vision devices (CCTVs and Braille equipment)
  • Other assistive devices.

The program will also consider requests for technology services, such as evaluations for a device and the training on a new device.

For more information and qualifications on procuring a cash loan contact Sue at IATP — 1-800-852-5110 V/TTY (Springfield).

ON-LOAN PROGRAM

Another program of the IATP is the TechConnect Device Loan Program that lets technology users in Illinois borrow assistive devices before purchasing the item, have a backup system when their equipment needs repairs or have a device while waiting for the new equipment to arrive.

Borrowers can pick up the devices or TechConnect will ship them via UPS; the return of the device(s) is the responsibility of the borrower.

For more information on the on-loan program or to tour the demonstration center, contact Shelly at the IATP (Source: Tech Talk, Illinois Assistive Technology Project, July-August-September 2002).
