Toy Guides and Alerts for the Holidays
H ave you started your holiday shopping? It’s just around the
corner.
The ISPB is pleased, once again, to recommend the following resources
as guides.
- Toys for Children Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired (2003
edition) will be available in October/November.
The resource book and
audiocassette are available free of charge through the American
Foundation for Fighting Blindness at 1-800-232-5463 and/or the Toy
Industry Foundation, Inc. at 1-212-675-1141 or www.toy-tia-org. This
resource also gives helpful ideas for children with additional
disabilities (i.e., cerebral palsy, cognitive impairments or
developmental disabilities), as well as suggestions for adults with
visual impairments who wish to participate in play with sighted
children.
- 2003 List of Toys That Will Cause Eye Damage will be
available by Dr. Phillip Kaufman in November. Please send a stamped,
self-addressed envelope to TOY LIST, Dr. Phillip Kaufman, 1395 Main
Street, Crete, IL 60417.
The Visionary ,
published as a service of the Illinois Society for the Prevention of
Blindness,
is available upon request. The information contained
in this issue,
taken from sources considered to be
accurate,
does not replace the need for professional eye care
consultations and treatments.
