2003 NAVP Conference Quick Tips

NAVP Conference July 31 - August 2, 2003, Oak Park

The National Association of Vision Professional (NAVP) held its annual conference, July 31-August 2, 2003, at The Carlton Hotel-Oak Park, Ill.

The informative sessions included the following:

  • “Symposium on Vision and Driving” by Walter Jay, M.D., with Loyola University Chicago; R. Tracy Williams, O.D., with Deicke Center for Visual Rehabilitation; and Anne Hegberg, M.S., OTR/L, with Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital;
  • “LASIK for Children” by James Katz, M.D., with Suburban Eye Consultants
  • Information on National Eye Health Education Programs by Karen Silver with National Eye Institute;
  • “Methods of Screening” by Chris Greening with Good-Lite and Christine Budorick with Illinois Department of Public Health/Vision Screening Program;
  • Information on the History of Glasses and on the Illinois College of Optometry by Arol Augsburger, O.D., President
  • “Providing Health Care to the Uninsured” by Victoria Bigelow with Access to Care;
  • “How To Use Cable Access TV To Get Your Message Out” by Jim McKechnie and Mike Weigus with ISPB.

Exhibitors were on hand to demonstrate their vision screening products.  The newly elected officers for a two-year term are:

  • President: James McKechnie
  • Vice President: Michele Hartlove
  • Secretary: Robin L. Dardy
  • Treasurer: Richard Sroczynski
  • Membership: Gina Streepy
  • Parliamentarian: Debra Savoie

Next year’s conference will be held in Washington, D.C.

The NAVP is an organization of people deeply concerned with prevention, detection and follow-up of vision services for pre-school and school age children and adults of all ages.
